Afternoon at Macarons et Madeleines

During the summer months, while wandering Richmond Road, my friends and I came across this locally-owned French pastry shop. Macarons et Madeleines was closed at the time but I promised myself a visit the following year.

I went with one of my favorite people, who I see often but rarely ever spend quality-time with. It was lovely catching up somewhere out of the usual meet-up spot. We spent our afternoon sipping tea & eating macarons, laughing about our unconventional similarities & bonding over our aspirations for the future.

The macarons really do live up to their reputation; They were delicate and distinct in flavour. My favourite would be the Salted Butter Caramel. The flan was really photogenic but taste-wise, nothing special. The rectangle that I forgot what it was called... stood out to me the most. My friend initially chose it because it was cheap. It tasted really vanilla-y and had a cake-like texture.

The bakery was small but charming. Customers who seemed to be locals would come in and out to pick up baked goods and prepared jars of jam, leaving the atmosphere peaceful as any cafe should be. We purchased a decent amount of sweets and all in the picture came to $10-$11/person, which was reasonable, considering how delicious everything was. I would definitely go again!

Thank you for reading, have a nice day
